Volunteering will be an important part of the Sixth Form. Students will be role models to the younger years as we feel it is important to give back and contribute to the school. Volunteering enables students to gain in confidence and improves their communication and time management skills. It also bolsters a UCAS personal statementand tutor references for apprenticeships or employment. Each student at Becket Keys Sixth Form will complete the Volunteering in School Award (VISA) programme.
VISA is an AQA accredited award scheme which will be run in the Sixth Form at Becket Keys. It is designed to encourage Sixth Form students to use their skills and strengths helping out and assisting younger students in a broad range of activities in the school environment. This can be extremely rewarding for the volunteer, but also very beneficial for the students they are working with.
Students need to complete a minimum of ten hours volunteer work in school. They can volunteer to be a prefect, help in lower school lessons, help at after school sports clubs, read with Year 7 students or take advantage of the other opportunities available. On successful completion of the course, students will be awarded a certificate of competence in the area of 'Volunteering in School' by AQA.
